India rebuffs criticism of UK arms seller’s detention

NEW DELHI: India on Saturday hit again at UN rights specialists who accused the nation of jailing a British arms seller extradited from the United Arab Emirates in a suspected swap for a runaway princess.

Christian Michel has been imprisoned in India since December 2018 after he was extradited from Dubai on costs of bribing and conspiring with Delhi officers over a significant helicopter deal.

On Friday the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) raised issues that his extradition represented “a de facto swap” for India’s seize and return of a high-profile detainee to the UAE, with out offering extra particulars.

Michel’s detention was politically motivated and with no authorized foundation, WGAD mentioned, demanding his instant launch and compensation from each nations.
